Frequently Asked Questions

Lead times, customization, FFL transfers, suppressors and the NFA process, and what it means to buy a complete weapon system from Horizon Arms Research.

What is the lead time on a custom build?

Most complete builds ship within 4 to 8 weeks of order confirmation, depending on parts availability and how customized the platform is. We quote a firm timeline before taking a deposit, and we keep you updated through assembly and testing. Rush timelines are sometimes possible; ask the shop.

How customizable is a Horizon Arms Research firearm?

Highly. We build complete weapon systems to order, so caliber, barrel length, optic, suppressor, light, trigger, finish, and furniture are all selectable. Tell us how the weapon will actually be carried and used, and we engineer the platform around that mission rather than handing you a parts list to reconcile.

What is included in a complete weapon system?

A complete system is the firearm plus the optic, suppressor or muzzle device, weapon light, mounts, and sling hardware, all selected, installed, zeroed, and function-tested as one unit before it leaves the shop. You receive a platform that works together out of the box, not a bare lower and a box of components.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Every Horizon Arms Research build carries our workmanship warranty covering assembly and fit for the life of the firearm. Individual components (optics, lights, suppressors, triggers) also carry their respective manufacturers' warranties, which we help you register and claim if needed. Full scope, exclusions, and how to file a claim are covered on our Warranty page.

How does shipping and the FFL transfer process work?

Firearms ship to a licensed FFL dealer near you, not to your door. You choose a local FFL, we ship the firearm to them, and you complete the background check and transfer in person at their counter. We coordinate the paperwork with your dealer and provide tracking. Accessories that are not serialized firearms can ship directly to you.

Can I buy a suppressor, and how does the NFA process work?

Yes. Suppressors are legal to own in most states but are regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). As of January 1, 2026, the federal transfer tax (the 'tax stamp') for suppressors is $0, down from $200, but you still file an ATF Form 4, pass a background check, and register the item, either as an individual or through a gun trust. We sell suppressor-ready builds and cans, walk you through the paperwork, and hold the item until your transfer is approved. Approval times vary, and eForm filings are typically faster than paper.

What does a build cost, and how do payments work?

Pricing depends on the platform and the components you choose. A complete system is priced as a build, not a base price plus a la carte add-ons. We provide a written quote up front, take a deposit to start the build, and collect the balance before the firearm ships to your FFL. Reach out to the shop with your intended use and we'll scope it.

Where do you ship, and are there state restrictions?

We ship to FFL dealers across the United States, but some configurations are restricted in certain states (for example, suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and certain magazine or feature configurations). Local, state, and municipal rules vary widely and change often, so your receiving FFL is responsible for confirming that a given build is legal to transfer where you are and for completing the transfer in compliance with local law. If you're unsure about a specific configuration, reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.
